The Brown & Bakken World Health Awards are so named because it was the dream
of Kenny Brown, co-founder of the Hawai‘i Health Foundation (and former Chair of
Queens Health Systems) that Hawai‘i be recognized as a world center for health. It
was his dream that traditional Hawaiian principles of healing be used to promote
health for as many people as possible. With the addition to our board of directors
of Dr. Earl Bakken, (the founder of Medtronic, the largest producer of implantable
medical devices) it became possible for us to have a world-wide reach. Every 6
seconds, a life is saved or is improved by the implantation of a Medtronic device.

The awards will be given to individuals and organizations who have been
instrumental in promoting community health, statewide health and world health.

The awards will include the
Earl Bakken International Health Award, the Kenneth
Brown Hawai‘i Health Award, and the Auntie Aggie Cope Community & Cultural
Health Award. There will also be a Hawai‘i Health Foundation Integrative
Medicine Award.

Please join us in our efforts to recognize the good works in health done in Hawai‘i
and around the world and to make Hawai‘i a world center for health.
