The Hawaii Health Foundation
Mission Statement

The mission of the Hawaii Health Foundation is to promote the health of Hawaii
and the world and to position Hawaii as a World Center of Health through
research, education and program that include traditional diet, values and
integrative health practices.

We believe that Hawaii should claim its place as a place as a world center for
health. All of us realize that we are at the crossroads of Eastern philosophy and
Western technology.  Our multicultural nature and rich healing tradion lay the
groundwork for a revolutionary health approach.

Cut Health Care Costs Naturally

We and our many supporters believe that
the health care system could be vastly
improved if it would pay more attention to
the whole-person health rather than isolated disease; and to natural and
integrative practices rather than artificial and pharmaceutical centered
approaches.

We are demonstrating that a natural and integrative approach yields better
outcomes and a reduction in cost. Our continued research has demonstrated
that this integrative approach works and our outreach indicates that it can
greatly improve the health of the community.

Promotion of Complementary and Alternative Medicine

We are supportive of and have assisted in the promotion of the newly formed
Department of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Wellness Clinic at the
John A. Burns School of Medicine.

The Hawai'i Health Foundation Executive Summary

Vision:
A Healthy World and Hawai'i as a World Center of Health Imagine a
society in which health improved so much that cost of health care declined
each year. This is a crucial dream for a nation whose obesity rate is epidemic,
whose chronic disease rate is rising, and whose costs of health care is spiraling
out of control. Now, imagine Hawaii being a major center for such a revolution
in health, with its position at the crossroads of Eastern wisdom and Western
technology, and with its own rich healing tradition. This is the Vision of the
Hawaii Health Foundation.

Activities Presentations and Programs: We believe that health care costs are
out of control because our current health system focuses on a drugs and
surgery approach and neglects diet, lifestyle, and less expensive integrative
health practices. To address this problem, the Foundation has conducted over
600 community health activities to almost every imaginable group such as
schools, health professionals, low income housing, senior groups, substance
abuse programs, prisons, government and work places to name a few. Through
research and advocacy, we hope to change the way medicine is practiced.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Research:

Thanks to a grant from the Hawaii State
Legislature through the Department of
Health we have conducted the beginning
phase of the Health Cost Reduction Program
Project.  We demonstrated a possible
reduction of pharmaceutical costs by as much as 25-30% through our integrative
health programs.

Promoting Health through Mass Media:
We continue to promote health over the
radio and through our website. Efforts
continue in creating a movie about our
project that is like the reverse of the
popular movie "Supersize Me."
